She’s off to college and it’s time for her bedroom to grow up too!

Now, what should you do with that spare room? Not only can your child still use the room while she’s home, but it can serve as a cozy guest room while she’s away.

Here are some photos of a recent job I completed with some ideas:

This look is classic, yet has a modern urban vibe in black and white with a pop of coral on the ceiling, pillows and chair.

I chose to incorporate this reading nook with its contemporary reflecting chair and ottoman upholstered in ikat dyed fabric. Ikat is a traditional textile made in tribal villages all over the world. The chair side table is a silver lacquered tree log and the modern adjustable floor lamp features a polished nickel base. The simple modern window treatment is done in industrial aluminum blinds which relate to the silver log table.

The black metal lamp shades have a triangular shape which mirror the triangular ikat pattern on the black and white bed linens, duvet cover, and European shams. The bedskirt, sheets and pillowcases are border edged in tumbled black cotton.

The dresser is inspired by vintage map drawer chests and has a soft black finish, darkened cup pulls, and bun feet. The soft black nightstands feature power outlets and built-in night lights. Finished in a cool subtle grey, the walls balance the warmth of the coral ceiling.
